Day 1:    Arrival in Bayeux

After check-in, visit the beautiful centre of Bayeux with its impressive cathedral, historic houses and the famous tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings. Overnight in Bayeux where the quality of local cuisine is superb. A local favourite is the galette, a savoury crepe made with buckwheat and filled with a range of different ingredients, or the tubs of mussels which are full of flavour!

 

Day 2:    Bayeux - Villers Bocage

The Véloroute Plages du Débarquement - Mont Saint-Michel leads you along small roads crossing the Bessin area around Bayeux. One unforgettable stop along this stage is the Abbey of Juaye Mondaye. Originally built by the Prémontré religious order some 800 years ago, it was rebuilt in the 18th century and is a masterpiece of the Classical period. Peacefully, this route take you from village to valley for ending near to Villers Bocage.

Day 3:    Villers Bocage - Caen
58 km

From Villers Bocage, cycle through the Normandy countryside to join the VéloFrancette and the charming green village of Thury-Harcourt, in the heart of the Suisse Normande! Continue North beside the Orne River, taking the greenway to Caen’s marina. This portion runs along a former railway line, offering an exceptionally peaceful route, a delight for nature lovers.

Challenge : 57.9 km, 523m ascent, 617m descent

 

Day 4:    Caen - Arromanches-les-Bains
52 km

This morning, a cycle track leads from central Caen to the marina in Ouistreham with its strand renowned as Sword Beach. The route continues along the famous “Côte de Nacre” with its many stunning beaches like Juno Beach and Gold Beach. From Ouistreham, a route entirely on a cycle path will take you to Courseulles-sur-Mer. 

In the afternoon, arrival in Arromanches. It was here that the Allies set up a harbour using sunken barges to supply the D-Day troops. Today the barges are still visible on the beach and in the sea. Take the time to visit the excellent and informative D-day museum.

Day 5:    Arromanches-les-Bains - Omaha Beach - Bayeux
51 km

This morning you start cycling from your hotel along the cliff above Gold Beach. Nearby is the main German Battery of Longues-sur-Mer, which you reach as you pass the Mulberry harbour. After visiting this strategic position with its tanks and bunkers, continue on to the fishing village of Port en Bessin for a nice break! In the afternoon, you head west direction Omaha Beach and the American War Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. Before returning to Bayeux, via small roads which take you from village to village through the Bessin countryside! 

Challenge : 50.7km, 548m ascent, 514m descent

 

Day 6:    Departure from Bayeux

After breakfast, end of your trip in Bayeux. We advise you to extend your stay in order to take the time to visit the beautiful city of Bayeux.
